Sealant for Preventing Cavities
Application of sealants on the permanent molars, when used in connection with daily oral hygiene regimen, can prevent cavities on the chewing surfaces. It is an easy and painless procedure for children. Sealants can last years, but may need to be periodically reapplied. Ask your dental professional if your child can benefit from them.
Bonded (Tooth-colored) Filling to Repair Teeth
One choice for repairing a front tooth is bonded restoration. It is a tooth colored filling that is shaped as the original tooth. The tooth colored material can also be used to repair the back teeth or what we call the posterior teeth.
Amalgam (Silver) Filling
Cavities are bacterial infections that should be treated. Since some Primary teeth don't fall out until about age of 11, cavities should be repaired.
- This is not being used today because some researchers found out that it is harmful to our heath: amalgam filling.
Stainless Steel Crown
- a.k.a. metal crown
- When a large cavity destroys mush of the tooth surface, a stainless steel crown can be used to restore the tooth.
- The materials can be stainless steel, Porcelain, Plastic and other available resins applicable for jacket crowns.
Space Maintainer
If a tooth is removed prematurely, a space maintainer might be inserted. This keeps the space open, allowing enough room for the permanent tooth to erupt.
